'What Will You Do?' by Ms. E

What will you do?

What will you do when no one replies to your late night Remind?

Who will you call when you don’t know how to solve the problem and the classroom is empty?

Where will they play when the gyms are closed because there is no Coach?

How will they learn when the tutors have all gone home?

Who will keep them safe when after-school is no longer an option?

What will they eat when there is no one to collect donations and stock their backpacks for the weekend?

Who will nourish their creativity when the art class is cancelled?

How will you finance programs when there is no one left to fundraise?

Who will find their voice when the drama teacher steps down?

How will they learn to love music when the band directors walk away?

Who will teach them about hard work, responsibility, and kindness when their role models quit?

How will you save their lives when there is no one there to notice the abuse?

Where will they find a safe place when there is no counselor left to turn to?

Who will make sure they have what they need?

When will you plan for their future?

How will you teach them?

What will they really learn?

When it all becomes too much

And love is no longer enough,

When we choose to walk away from this profession that we love...

Will you be able to catch all that we drop?

Can you keep up with all that we do?

As the hard days become many And the good days become few...

It’s becoming a reality inside of our schools.

Every time support is needed but isn’t found,

Every time money is stretched at home as far as it will go,

Every time we are talked to in a disrespectful tone,

Every time we have nothing left for Our own kids when we get home...

A piece of our love for teaching dies and a bit of our heart goes with it, too.

What if we say that enough is enough and finally decide to give it all up?

If we throw in the towel and say that we’re through,

Have you really Considered-

What will you do?
